Overview
In Uganda, persons with disabilities (pwds) constitute a significant portion of the population, with approximately seven million individuals, according to the Uganda demographic and health survey (2016). Despite their potential and talents, Pwds face persistent barriers that limit their access to education, employment, and meaningful participation in community life. A staggering 75% remain unemployed, 80% live In poverty, and only a small fraction attains tertiary education, Leaving many marginalized and excluded.
The lack of access to assistive technologies (AT) and professional care support services further deepens this exclusion. Essential tools like wheelchairs, hearing aids, and communication devices could enable PWDs to transition from isolation to full societal participation. However, these resources are often inaccessible due to their high cost, unavailability, or lack of customization to individual needs, thereby hindering their ability to contribute to the labor market, pursue education, and engage in civic activities.
Dasuns was established to address these inequities by providing innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions. Through programs that facilitate access to professional care services, develop affordable assistive products, and promote capacity building, we empower PWDs to live independently and actively participate in their communities. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and fostering collaborations with stakeholders, Dasuns is committed to creating a more inclusive society—one where PWDs can thrive, achieve their goals, and contribute meaningfully to every aspect of life.
